Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs
Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture combined showed the greatest benefit in treating depression.

A recent study from Shaoxing Seventh People's Hospital on the benefits of acupuncture combined with Chinese herbal therapy in treatment of depression showed marked improvement in symptoms for patients. While subjects showed improvement with Acupuncture or herbal therapy alone, the results were greatest with the combined therapy.

Interestingly, researchers also found that with the combined treatment, subjects showed an increase in serum neurotransmitter levels of three neurotransmitters, including serotonin. These neurotransmitters are usually reduced in patients with depression, indicating one possible mechanism for how this treatment works to help treat depression.
